The additional checks begin exactly four years after the UK left the EU.
But government minister Dame Andrea Leadsom told LBC she believed it would only be a temporary problem.
Dame Andrea told LBC: “Inevitably, businesses move on. We have signed up to 70 free trade agreements – a huge opportunity to import cheaper products.”
She told Nick Ferrari she was “extremely delighted” about Brexit and that Britain had regained its “sovereignty”.

Smaller suppliers have warned that the new controls will lead to higher prices and fewer options in stores.
The Guild of Fine Food (GFF), which represents 12,000 businesses, said additional red tape would make it harder to import fine meat and cheese into the UK.
